Part of the "Heirloom Jewels" exhibition, available to view at the Francie studio store until Sunday June 15th.

A series of four paintings by Te Whanganui-a-Tara painter Briana Jamieson, made in response to Francie’s Heirloom Jewels collection. Inspired by the creams, chestnut browns, charcoals and warm reds of the collection; as well as Briana’s autumn garden; full of heirloom tomatoes, jewel-
toned dahlias, and dreams of planting fruit trees.

One of the first things Briana did when moving to a new garden, was clear an area of ground, and plant tomato seedlings, grown from last summer’s tomatoes. Large heirloom tomatoes in deep purples, reds, and orange. The last of the tomatoes are still ripening in the autumn sun; underneath a hillside of pink and purple dahlias. Recently she has been planning and dreaming of what fruit trees to plant, on the sunny corner above the house. Apples, peaches, hazelnut. The seeds and tubers from autumn flowers and fruit, become heirlooms, kept and grown again each year. Emerging every autumn, the pinks, reds, and greens, glow like jewels in the low amber sunlight.

Briana Jamieson is a painter based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara,
Wellington. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (First Class
Honours) from Massey University. Recent exhibitions include
Garden Day, Sanderson, 2026; Party Girl, Penny Sage, 2025; Clay
& Paint, with Zoë Isaacs, KAUKAU, 2025; and Roses for Penny
Sage, Penny Sage, 2025.
